2012 League of Their Own Viewing
Bosse Field is rich in history. It is currently the third oldest ballpark in the country at 97 years old. One of it's most popular moments was it's use in the film A League of Their Own. The year 2012 marked the 20th anniversary since the film's release, I felt it necessary to host a commemorative event.
On June 22, we hosted viewing of the film where it was filmed. We also incorporated cars used as props in the film, women who played in the league the film is based around, our traditional ballpark menu options, a first pitch, and our national anthem. The event attracted over 1,500 people to celebrate the occasion with us. |

2012 Otters Scout Overnight
On July 27th, 2012 the Otters held a scout overnight for local scouts to enjoy an Otters' game, a spectacular fireworks display, partake in an exciting workshop with some of our players working on baseball fundamentals, and spend the night right on the field of our 97-year-old ballpark. We capped registration just over 100 people and the slots filled fast! By the end of the event, every group in attendance was interested in registering for next season.
As a scout of 13 years, I found that this was of high importance to incorporate into our 2012 season. It was my responsibility to create the event, advertise and promote the overnight throughout the community, acquire the necessary materials, recruit players to lead the workshop stations, and oversea the entire execution of the event. I am happy to relay that both the workers and scouts had a fun-filled evening. This flyer was created using Adobe InDesign CS5.5. |
The Otters' first Military Appreciation day was a success despite the cancellation of the game due to rain. The flyer to the left lists many of the components we incorporated into the game to enhance the theme. These components include: a camouflage jersey auction, a raffle for a weekend at the French Lick resort, free admission for every family with a Military Identification Card, an iPad giveaway, and an appearance by the Rolling Thunder Bike Club. Due to the inclement weather, we had to reschedule the game for the following day after a lengthy rain delay but the reviews were still unanimously positive.
